There are two master mixes of this album.
The first mix was overseen by Lou Reed and was done with the recording engineer, Angel Balestier at TTG studios in Los Angeles. This mix is notable for its dry sound and upfront vocals, with Sterling Morrison calling it the Closet Mix because it sounded like it was recorded in a closet.
The 8-track tapes were sent to New York where Val Valentin oversaw a more conventional mix (aka the Valentin Mix), which included a different version of Some Kinda Love.
While the so-called Closet Mix was used for the original US release, the Valentin Mix was used for the original 1969 UK LP release. The Valentin Mix was also used on the 1985 reissues.
The only official Closet Mix released in digital form has been on box sets. It appeared on the 1996 box set, Peel Slowly and See and on the 2014 Super Deluxe 6 CD issues. The first matrix of the German CD version used the Closet Mix for tracks 1-5 (with channels reversed).
