Reckoning (alternatively titled File Under Water) is the second from fifteenth studio albums (1983-2011) by American alternative rock band [a=R.E.M.], recorded December 1983 and January 1984, and released on April 14, 1984, by [l=I.R.S. Records].

Certain LP copies, the European CBS CD, the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissue, and certain editions of the 25th anniversary 2-CD release feature a 30-second coda shortly after the end of "Little America". This coda is also used as a bookend in the companion short Left of Reckoning, a collage of film clips shot at the Whirligig Farm in Rabbittown, Georgia set to the first six songs on the album.
