The Story
Sinatra's 10th studio album with Capitol (and 16th overall), a successor to Sinatra's previous ballad albums on Capitol [m=96471] (1955) and [m=137979] (1957).
Recorded simultaneously in mono and stereo on May 29, June 24, June 26, 1958. First released in the U.S. September 8, 1958, in mono with six tracks per side. First released in stereo in the U.S. on November 18, 1958, with only five tracks per side, omitting "It's A Lonesome Old Town" (A4) and "Spring Is Here" (B4) from the mono version. Later stereo reissues include all 12 tracks. Entered the U.S. charts on September 29, 1958, and reached No. 1 on October 13, where it stayed for five weeks. Certified Gold on June 21, 1962.
The cover portrait painted by [a=Nick Volpe] won the Grammy Award for Best Album Cover in 1958.
Production erroneously credited to Voyle Gilmore on some versions instead of Dave Cavanaugh.
